BE GOOD · DO GOOD · BE ONE
At present, more than eight billion people live on Earth. Our different cultures and values have been shaped by religions and ideologies. We find traditions and customs that were once unfamiliar and far away from us now residing in our immediate neighbourhoods. How can we live together in unity with all our outer diversity? It seems as if “we have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another” (J. Swift).
Be good – do good – be one, words that reflect the essence of Sant Kirpal Singh’s mission, became the motto by which the Unity of Man movement abides. Anyone moved by its ideals, practising them and living up to them, “reformers, not of others, but of themselves”, is contributing to the change in consciousness so needed today.
Unity of Man
Fundamental principle
We are children of God, born the same way, with the same privileges from God. Soul being of the same essence as that of God, we are all brothers and sisters in God; and the same One Power whom we worship is called by different names.
Sant Kirpal Singh
Unity of Man refers to this inner, inherent unity of humanity.
Kirpal Sagar
Located in northern India, Kirpal Sagar embodies the ideals of Unity of Man. The project not only promotes the physical and intellectual development of man, but also the spiritual pursuit of higher virtues and right understanding which belies the national, religious or social differences between us.
People there share an openness and peaceful cooperation between religions in recognition of humanity’s inherent unity. The project focuses on the commonalities religions share the symbols of which stand prominently on top of the central building as an emblem of unity between man and God. As God resides in each one of our hearts, equal respect is given to all religions. Communion with God takes place within us as man is the “true temple of God”.
The project’s social facilities and charitable activities help people to stand on their own feet in many practical ways. As economic progress has barely reached the rural areas, this service is much needed.
Activities
Unity of Man organises lectures and conferences on a variety of spiritual topics to promote religious tolerance, ethical lifestyle, and greater unity. Established in several countries, centres are open to anyone, all activities are free of charge.
